Plav

 Plav is town and seat of the municipality of the same name in northern part of Montenegro, which covers 329 km² and has a population of 9050 inhabitants. It is situated around Lake Plav and near the springs of the Rive Lim, at the base of the Prokletije mountain range. 

Plav is located at 945 meters above sea level and offers a great vacation, both in winter and summer. 

There are two international airports in Montenegro:
– the Golubovci Airport in Podgorica, in the heart of the country, 145 km from Plav,
– the Tivat Airport in Tivat, the Bay of Kotor, 222 km from Plav,
– also, Tirana Airport in Tirana, Albania, 195 km from Plav.

Main landmarks in Plav:

  • Redzepagic Tower: the oldest and most interesting residential –defense facility, from the 17th-century;
  • Sultanija Mosque: a historic mosque dating back to the 15th century;

  • The monastery Brezojevica:  Orthodox Monastery dedicated to Saint Trinity, the oldest known sacral object and preserved monument in Montenegro;

  • Plav Lake: a large glacial lake known for swimming, boating, and fishing;
  • Ali Pasha’s springs: the largest permanent karst spring in Montenegro;

  • Prokletije National Park: offering dramatic hiking, including the Volusnica and Hrid Lake areas..

Main annual cultural and entertainment events in Plav:

 

  • Blueberry Days: the most famous event, featuring music, sports, and local gastronomy, held in late July;
  • Honey Day: an agricultural and craft fair, held in July;
  • Cinema Under the Sky: open-air film screenings on rafts at Plav Lake  held during summer;
  • Winter Magic in Plav: an event includes a January masked ball, Plavska Sofra (traditional food and folklore), and New Year celebrations, held in January.
